Thank you, I'm using both windows and Mac for my studies, but was torn between endnote and Zotero I presume Zotero is cross platform enabled (along as you can access the same drive?)

Ahhhh, welcome back, you little legend. Yes, the September fear is very real here, too. It's the final year for me, too. I hope to submit it in early 2025! Procrastination is my eternal enemy! And we should get extra credit for completing a PhD with period/ menopause (in my case) shite as a co-author!

Holly, that's my second time watching this video! Just love your energy and it is always a bit nostalgic because your accent reminds me of the time I lived in Dublin! (my second home) I'm at the same stage on my phd journey... hard and stressful having this timeline! Would love some more study live sessions. Hi Holly and Friends! I wish I’d discovered you sooner! I’m just about finished with my capstone for my Master of Public Health at the University of Southern Maine. I’ve had all the same challenges through grad school and especially my capstone. Thank you for sharing yours!

my problem is my pillars are located in the sidebar not in a database so its frustrating that i cant link to the page for that specific pillar. i found i could copy the link and add it in per entry but thats to tedious i have well over a hundred tasks collectively across all my pillars. i think all i can do for now is create a tag so each task has some kind of category / label and then click over to the pillar page from the sidebar. the learning curve for me is slow.

As someone in the midst of grad school, it is so lovely to see content from someone who doesn’t just glorify the good parts but engages with the really challenges aspects of being in academics as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Body doubling has completely changed the pace of writing my thesis. So much so, I joined one of those online zoom-call style body doubling thingies - it's been helping so much it's embarrassing.

This is amazing! As a music teacher I'm so excited for this work to come out. Really really impressive stuff - keep it up!

Paraphrasing Katherine Morgan Schafler's The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control: A Path to Peace and Power, "Experts develop trust with themselves and move with confidence, not certainty. Trust is a choice, supported by action, built over time." Finishing a PhD is a journey of faith and requires learning to trust your own expertise. I relied too heavily on hyperfocus to finish mine (probably due to fear of failure if I'm being honest), and I spent most of my post-doc recovering from burn out. I am now learning that taking care of myself, pacing myself, and resting when I need to is also productive. Holding boundaries that protect my energy is a more sustainable path to success than sacrificing myself for the sake of speed and external demands. I am cheering you on, looking forward to hearing about the next steps on your journey and learning more about your research!

Honestly i just love phd content at this point - helps me feel less alone! I am just starting my data collection which involved moving to Tokyo for my ethnographic fieldwork 🤯 has been a bit of a mind fuck but we move, small steps and I'll get there in the end right!

Ever since graduating from my MA, I have been experiencing the "I have things that I want to have accomplished, but I am annoyed at the fact that they're not accomplished yet, so taking the time that it takes to accomplish those things feels like a waste of time right now" and I eventually also had to talk myself back into "if you want it done you just have to do it" so I'm 100% with you. The resistance to working is the part of the ND experience that I maybe hate the most if i'm honest

Happy to see it's not only me who's "working" but not actually getting sh*t done at the start of the semester. We'll get there soon, I'm sure! Also happyyyy to see you again! You've got this!

Well, I feel that I need to say when I was writing my thesis (Msc) last winter, I used to wake up at 5 and watch one of your episodes bc of the vibe; it gave me the push to start and get the shit done in about 3 weeks. So I wanted to thank you. Keep going.

Handing mine in next September. I didn't take a summer break - didn't trust myself to get back at it. Got my second panel at the end of the month - I'm really hoping they won't all say, 'Well, this has gone to shite.' 😬

Not the point of this video BUT just wanted to say I put up with the copper coil pain for about 2 years before changing it. Totally gaslit myself into thinking the pain wasn’t that bad, but now having changed to the hormonal coil I can see how utterly debilitating it was. I was reluctant to get the hormonal one in case it affected my mood (am already on antidepressants) but it hasn’t had a negative effect whatsoever. Not enough people talk about it - grateful to you for bringing it up!

I love hearing how everyone is ❤ and on this occasion, I particularly welcome ALL advice on getting through the final year of a PhD. Please drop any and all wisdom nuggets below. Yours in mania, Holly x
